We are writing to give you the latest update around DEA verification.<\/p>\n

What is the latest update?\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0USDOJ moved\u00a0forward with a change to their\u00a0electronic\u00a0verification process on 12\/30\/2020.\u00a0 This change was complex and impacted all organizations\u00a0with an integration to the USDOJ DEA electronic verification portal, including Modio.\u00a0\u00a0The result of this change\u00a0is\u00a0that we no longer are able to verify a DEA license using one of our automatic updaters ( \u00a0).<\/p>\n

How did we get here?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Back in October and November, we sent out communications\u00a0to alert you of multiple changes that\u00a0were occurring to the electronic\u00a0DEA verification process.\u00a0 While we don\u2019t know the exact reason for\u00a0the\u00a0changes instituted by these government agencies\u00a0the general consensus by many industry experts is that they were prompted by\u00a0the\u00a0desire to make DEA numbers\u00a0less accessible to the general public.\u00a0\u00a0 Regardless, the\u00a0change involved\u00a0NTIS no longer offering a subscription service for DEA license verification\u00a0and our moving to a new integration with USDOJ, which had additional requirements to electronically verify a license.\u00a0 You can review our first<\/a> or second<\/a> communications on our blog.<\/p>\n

What are the next steps?\u202f\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Modio is working to determine if we will be able to restore this functionality\u00a0but at this time the DEA updater is unavailable.\u202f As we continue to explore options and develop solutions, we have made some changes in the platform to assist with the change in workflow:<\/p>\n

    We have unlocked the\u00a0greyed-out\u00a0fields in DEA licenses:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0This will allow you to manually update an expiration on a license already in the system and keep other data points up to date. Our alerts system will continue to function normally as long as the license record contains a current expiration date, so if you plan to update your providers’ DEA license numbers manually, you can continue to monitor alerts as usual.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The new USDOJ link can be accessed on DEA licenses in OneView:\u00a0<\/strong>As you know, we keep the primary source links on each license so you can manually launch to the website.\u00a0\u00a0(The new link\u00a0for USDOJ\u00a0is:\u00a0https:\/\/apps.deadiversion.usdoj.gov\/webforms2\/spring\/validationLogin?execution=e1s1<\/a>)\u00a0\u00a0For the new website, please know that you will need to know the following information to verify the license:\u00a0DEA number, Last name, SSN, Zip code of address associated with the license, DOB, expiration on the license. As you can see, the new requirements are more\u00a0complex\u00a0and you must navigate through multiple screens to complete the verification.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Other\u00a0controlled substance updaters:<\/strong>\u00a0Because the SAMHSA\/X (Buprenorphine) and state CDS updaters are not functionally impacted by the USDOJ, they will continue to function as normal.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        At this time, we are working to develop a solution that will hopefully restore the ability for you to electronically verify a DEA license on the\u00a0platform.\u00a0\u00a0We will be sending out additional emails in the coming weeks and keeping you up to date with the latest developments.<\/p>\n
